Jesus is the lamb of God John 3: 16 tells us that God gave away His only Son Jesus as a sacrifice for our sins. In the old testament, goats were used as sacrifices uh the place of actual people hence the term scapegoat. The animal would be handed the sins of the individual as a ransom for sin. Jesus is our ransom that died for our sins to give us freedom. God gave his Son to die for our sins in his stead so we can have everlasting life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
